Skin Cancer Action Week 2016

Wed, 11/02/2016 - 10:26 -- gbmc

Each year Cancer Council Australia and the Australasian College of Dermatologists come together for National Skin Cancer Action Week.

With two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by age 70, the week is a time when we remind Australians of the importance of sun protection and early skin cancer detection.

More than 2000 people in Australia die from skin cancer each year and Cancer Council estimates that Australia spends more than $1 billion per year treating skin cancer, with costs increasing substantially over the past few years.

World COPD Day 2016

Wed, 11/02/2016 - 10:24 -- gbmc

Get involved in World COPD Day to raise awareness about the symptoms, risk factors and treatment for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). One in seven Australians 40 years or older has COPD and half of those who have progressed to a stage where they are experiencing symptoms will not know that they have it.

By helping Lung Foundation raise awareness you will help drive early detection of this disabling disease. Remember: breathlessness is not a normal part of ageing and shouldn’t be ignored.

Lung Health Awareness Month 2016

Tue, 11/01/2016 - 12:43 -- gbmc

Lung Foundation Australia along with Golden Beach Medical Centre aims to ensure lung health is a priority for all in Australia and works to promote lung health among the wider community, patients and healthcare professionals.

Lung disease doesn’t discriminate – it affects the young, old, male, female, smokers, former-smokers and never smokers.

Movember 2016

Tue, 11/01/2016 - 12:41 -- gbmc

The state of men’s health is in crisis. Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute.

Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing this health crisis and it’s not being talked about.

We can’t afford to stay silent.
